Renting furniture is fun because you get to pick some pieces of furniture you never would have happened upon if you were furnishing the place for yourself, like end tables for example.

Most end tables serve the function of completing a room by holding decoration, so what exactly should you put on those things now that you have them?

You want it to look like you know what their purpose is, so give them a purpose! Here are some decoration ideas for your newly rented end tables.

A pleasure to the nose

End tables are usually found in the living room or the bedroom, so why not deck them out in things that will make these lived-in places smell wonderful?

You can take a trip to Target or Bath and Body Works and pick a few candles that smell amazing and go with your color scheme. Getting cute candle holders to top it off will make them look great on the end table, and give the end table the purpose of making the room smell awesome.

Light it up

You could also use your end table to sport an antique lamp that gives the room a rustic look. This lighting is great for when you want to eat dessert with a movie, because it won’t cause a glare but will give you enough light to where you won’t spill ice cream all over yourself.

You can never have too much light in a room, so this could be a great thing to put on an end table, especially if it ends up functioning as a nightstand in your room.

Pictures galore

An end table can be a great place for you and your housemates to sport some of your “family photos.” Get some cute frames and put some pics of you all in them for guests to enjoy while they are lounging on your couch.

Book stand

If you want to show people what you are reading or have run out of room for your books in your bedroom, why not put some great reads on your end table? It will make you look smart and sophisticated, and can be a good talking point for guests if they have read the books you have out or if they are curious about them.

Vase

Flowers can always brighten up a room, so why not use your end table to sport the new flowers you just picked out in the garden or bought at the store? If you don’t want them to die all the time, you can get some cute fake flowers or get a potted plant and see if you have better luck with that.

You can change this up for different seasons, like having sunflowers popping up during the summer, and some baby pumpkin strands during the winter.

Holiday greetings

Your end table can also be sporting some holiday décor. Give it a small pumpkin and leaves theme during the fall, put a baby Christmas tree on it during the winter, sprinkle it with hearts during February — the choices are endless and you’ll have a lot of fun with it.

Mix it up

Who says you can only have one thing on your end table? You can mix up the items on it to keep it interesting and make the space more “you.” Maybe you go with your favorite books and some nice smelling candles, or a vase and a picture of you and your housemates. Depending on the size of the table, you can make it intricate and fun, while still keeping a tasteful vibe in the room.

The minimalist

If you got an end table and just can’t decide what to put on it, why not just put a tablecloth over it and have some coasters on it? People will then be able to use it for their drinks and such when watching TV, the end table gets a purpose, and you don’t have to stress what the decoration you chose is saying about you.

DIY

Your end table can be the perfect place to show off your crafty side. Maybe you want to frame a picture you drew, or a painting you did, or show off some figurines that you modeled out of clay. It would definitely make the end table a part of you, and decoration on it would be less overwhelming than on the wall.

As you can see, there are many things you can do with your newly rented end table. Who knew it had so many uses! You can always look on the web for some cute configurations of the different items listed above, and can constantly change it up to give your living room or bedroom a different vibe.

Have fun and get creative with it! Soon you’ll be the end table expert.
